Universal design opens up the usefulness of spaces we use regularly. It makes good design sense for everyone, not just those with special needs. We all need “livability” and fluidity in our environment. Barrier-free showers are easy to move in and out of. Kitchens with roomy aisles and under-counter space are a pleasure to use.
In this video put out by Houzz TV Live, Design-Build Pro Shares Key Features for Accessible Spaces, Jonas Carnemark discusses and illustrates how he incorporates Universal design principles in the beautiful design work he achieves for his clients.
There is an additional article that goes with the piece, A Barrier-Free Master Bathroom with a Luxurious Feel, by Anne Colby, Junr 25, 2018, so you can look through examples of Mr. Carnemark’s Universal design work.
We hope this inspires you when designing your own spaces, or working with an interior designer to get an outcome that really works for you.
